Mulvaney decided to write a ‘biography’ of Arnhem land in 1974-5, tracing chronologically the stories of the country. He travelled by helicopter landing on top of Jim Jim falls in the dry season.

CAHILL FORMATION URANIUM EXPOSURE

Uranium exposure on the highway outside Darwin on the road to Ubirr.  Over time Uranium accumulated in what at this area is known as the Cahill formation, named after Paddy Cahill, of the Oenpelli Settlement (Gunbalyany). The Cahill formation is a slightly later part of this ancient volcanic landscape.

GRANITE HILL - KEN MULVANEY

Granite Hill is just inside the Ranger Uranium Mine lease. The Kombolgie sandstone formation on its top was formed around 1.7 billion years ago, the granite is up to 2.3 billion years old.

The formation of Granite Hill At Granite Hill visitors can put their arm in the cracks between the rocks – a space that represents half a billion years of time.
