Dreaming History For The Pelican

This short video is of three Aboriginal men, Nugget Collins Jarparta, Larry Brandy Jimija and Abbey Thomas Jungala, talking about the manufacture and trade (called “winnun”) of large stone blades (“giru”). The men discuss the dreaming history of the blades (pelican history) and then demonstrate how the blades are manufactured using fire the break the rock. I believe this is the only filmed recording of the use of heat for artefact manufacture. The men also discuss the trade of the blades.
